Porquis Blues Festival 2004 Review

Hello Folks,

Well. this year was another great day for the blues at the longest running Blues Festival in Canada, the Porquis Blues Festival on July 10th, 2004.

The first one to hit the stage running was the blues-rock of Johnny Williams out of Sudbury, I think anyhow?

Johnny's guitar playing has a hard edge to his style and looks the part with the big corn-straw cowboy hat and the cowboy boots to boot! Ha,Ha!

I sure like his playing and music that was mostly originals from an up and comming CD, but since then I've heard the CD and it's not what I heard live at the festival? What happen? Should have listen to his live shows later, but that his choice and taste of what to come from him in the future to come. Now on to more pictures of him and his band.

Now for the next artist whom I think is one of the best blues guitar player in the north, whom I've seen at the festival. The style he plays is what I like in a blues guitar player in the first place so maybe I a little one sided but that's for my tastes any way! LOL.

Jake and the Fundamenals is always a pleasure to see live and enjoy in full, live in your face no other way!

I come across an CD from a few years back and they had a woman singing! She was great I wish they would bring her to Porquis one of these years! Come on Jake! Talk her into it!

Keep the blues alive, waiting for the next CD.

Now on for more...

The young lady whom hit the stage with SAB backing her up was a pretty one named, Little Lisa Gibson. She has a very strong voice and can blow the mouth harp, like Sonny Boy Williams can, even on a bad day.

She sure did some good covers and even got a little home town girl come up on stage to let her join in the fun and ganes of playing the blues with the mouth harp. Maybe one day she'll be right up there with her band and doing what she loves best too?

The Hurtin' Blues Band took to the stage next and they are the home town band from Iroqouis Falls, which is this a few mile down the road from the Porquis Junction where the best blues festival in the north is and hope to be for some years yet!

They seem to lost thier original drummer this year but grandost of a lady sat in for the group, Miss Maureen Brown.

more to come . . .
