Saturday, July 5th ************ The Shaftmen The Jazz 2 for 2 The Hurtin' Blues Band Soul Doubt Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne Sab and the Family Band The Ricky Paquette Band Slidin’ Clyde Roulette Layla Zoe ************
It's my Saturday Night of Blues at it's best for the Porquis Blues Festival and it has been only Saturday since it started back in 1998 when groups such has the Downchild Blues Band, Paul James Band, Jack De Keyzer, SAB, and Hurtin' Blues Band hit the stage a runnin' with real music the BLUES! Then it was grreat to see Downchild in a festival fornat instead of a bar which I first seem them in the early 1980s in Toronto's Albert's Hall, which was a breading ground for many Blues bands in the day.
The in 1999, I got to see a legend in his own right Mr. Prime Minister of the Blues himself, Dutch Mason came to burn the stage down and Sab even threw in a few matches to make it a bomb fire that night, well for me anyhow! LOL.
I even got to make friends with some of the artists like Sab, J.W. Jones, and Big Daddy G from Toronto whom when on to share the stage with one of his idol, BB King.
What could I say but it really put a smile on my face for weeks after the festival in always remembering the acts which give us 200% of thier talent for the crowd. The blues is for anyone to whom it takes them by thier soul and heart for a never ending feeling of enjoyment of life!
Now on to this years event on Satudday night folks.
I had to go home after Friday's Night big show with Barrelhouse Blues Band just taking the riens and letting the power grow so big that it would never end but for by-laws it did...
So I heading back to Kirkland Lake to pick up my fellow concert goer's from the deep south. They had wanted to come and check out the festival for some time now and when they heard that Layla Zoe was going to be one of the acts, I got a email saying "we are coming up this July to see the festival". I hope that they would really enjoy thier selves and maybe come back agian some time in the future for more live BLUES! In all I think they did and I hope to have a few words from both of them in the future too.
AS we got into the grounds the band was setting up to start this days beginning of great music! The Shaftmen were the first badn to hit the stage and start the ball a rollin'....
This fellow is the main singer of the group
New songs and more of a Rockin' sound to the set this time out. Great stuff guys, can't wait to hear the new CD by the end of this year I hope?
"below are two fine Blues friends from the south of Ontario"
"Two Guitar Shaftmen Attack! "
Inbetween the first set they had a small Jazz Band in the food barn playing some Jazz standards for the eater's of some fine fast food like Pizza's and Hot Dog's, Hamburger's, and French Fries too....
Now for a home town feeling with the Hurtin' Blue band to do what they do best is play real blues for the true listeners at heart..... Man can this band do it right!
Soul Doubt been at the festival a few times and each time the girls have change but the grand sound is still there and in grand styles they just shine like a sparklying ball at New Years Eve's ball dropping.
"The Best Dressed Darn Blues Girls Shouters"
Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne came out a gunning with two harps two mouths and both are putting on a show to set the pace for the next acts to follow. It was a great idea to bring Little Miss Gibson out to set the stage a blazzing with a two harp attack on the crowd, just blew me away! LOL
It don't get any better than this folks.......
The Hurtin' Blues Band does a grand job backing up Mr. Blue Boss!
My Blues Buddies Dancing up a Storm to Mr. Rockin' Blues himself, "SAB".
