Porquis Blues Festival 2005 Review

Hello FANS,

Well. this year is another great weekend for the blues for the longest running Blues Festival in Ontario, the Porquis Blues Festival on July 8,9,10th, 2005.

Yes! It was three days of BLUES live and sorry but I only was there for Saturday. Sure I wish I could have made it for the Friday afternoon and on til midnight and not being there for the Sunday breakfest for pancakes and the jam but one day was good enough for me!

Maybe if there was a really big name in the blues like David Gogo, Jim Brynes, Morgan Davis, Sue Foley, Tony D Band, Steve Hill, Philip Sayce, Johnny V, Wild T or the great Powder Blues Band for names?

"From the Timmins Daily Press on July 11, 2005"

The above clip from the newspaper got me saying a few good words for the festival and the blues!

The first act up was called, "Calling the Shots", blues standards up front and real.

The young lady whom hit the stage with SAB backing her up was a pretty one named, Little Lisa Gibson. She has a very strong voice and can blow the mouth harp, like Sonny Boy Williams can, even on a bad day.

Man! Does she have an strong, strong voice which knocks my socks off!

Even had an hair color change, looks good Lisa!

Kevin Carly is below

Nothing but the PlayCats up for nipping at the catnip!

Now on for more...

SAB doing the SAB thing with help from some good buddies on each side of him to rock the stage!

Next up was an young man with a very strong voice and a darn good piano player too! Julian Fauth with a guitar player name Jake ?

The Hurtin' Blues Band or two-parts of the band took the stage in an acoustic format to please the fans with some down home backyard blues!

Great, Great stuff!

Jake came this year with a new lineup and it was nothing but short of an bomb going off and never seeing the light before it hits you, with two guitar player having so much fun that it just as to rub off on the fans. They just blew me away with thier two guitar act. I'm a big sucker for this type of Blues/Rock music. Keep the music up, Jake and hope to buy an CD of this act or group you have now?

.

Now the crowd is in for a big treat with this big band style group with 11 members to cover the stage, it's Soul Doubt from Timmins.

They did a song from Joe Cocker called, the Letter and a Lighthouse song too. Not bad for the north and hope to see these artist agian somewhere else. Like a Timmins club.

Roxanne Potvin is a girl to watch! She's just great as a little singer and a very good guitar player of the West Coast style.

I do love her stage presence and going to keep an eye on her thru-out the next few years to come!

Now David Rotundo is a great Harmonica player whom bring Kim Wilson to mind with his wild stage show and shown-himship!

Now it's the end of the night and the Blues Jam is here to colse the night with a big BANG!

That's all I got for pictures sorry folks maybe next year I'll get more and with an upgrade on my camera.

Another summer of great live blues to see and hear up front and personal for anyone that love the blues see it LIVE! It's the only way to go!

If anyone has pictures and want to put them up on this page? Get in touch with me and I will for sure!

more to come . . .
